SO, YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT GOING TO CHURCH
Maybe you're just curious about Christianity, or you're seeking the Lord for the first time. Perhaps you're a Christian who has just moved into the area and you're looking for a local church. Or you're looking to re-commit yourself to the Lord.
Whatever your reason, going anywhere new for the first time can be a little bit daunting, and we would like to make you feel at home straight away, So we have put together some FAQ's that you might have to hopefully make it a little bit easier for you - hope it helps!
Our address is: Oasis Church, 10a Exchange Street, South Elmsall, Pontefract, WF9 4BQ
Telephone: 01977 648 394
We are next door to Home Bargains, on the side road that leads into what was the council car park, but is now the ALDIS car park.
Our doors open at 9: 45 on Sunday Mornings and we have a 10 Minute prayer time at 10:00 am, So if you want to arrive early and join us in praying for the meeting, anytime before 10. Our main service starts at 10: 30, so if you want to come for that then any time between 10:15 and 10: 30. Don't worry if you are late, just join in when you arrive.
If you drive past the church you will enter a large car park. Parking is free all day on Sundays.
We are a very friendly bunch at Oasis, and you can expect a warm welcome to you and your family. You will receive a welcome pack which includes a free bible, and shown to the main hall.
We give the notices at the beginning of the service, to make everyone aware of what's happening through the week, then we get down to praising the Lord. The bible encourages to sing and to make a joyful noise to God, and we do just that. This prepares us to receive the word of God, and we are strongly grounded in the bible. We are an Evangelical, Spirit-filled church and, while we don't encourage some of the excesses of some churches, we are very open to the move of the Spirit, so long as it agrees with and conforms to scripture.
We do have communion, but this does not happen every week, so that it does not become a cold tradition just done for the sake of it.
After the service we stay behind for fellowship as long as people want - and drink coffee! (Tea and cold drinks are also available).
We are led by the Spirit and we can't put a time limit on Him, but generally speaking around 90 minutes. But please don't rush off afterwards, we stay behind for fellowship and have tea or coffee (we have freshly ground coffee by the way) and usually cake and/or biscuits.
Clothes! Seriously though, come as you are. We have no set requirements, although perhaps best to leave bikinis/speedos for the beach 😉
Absolutely! we are very family-friendly and welcome children. The kids stay with us for the praise and worship and then go for more age appropriate church.
We have our version of Sunday school - Camel Club, for children up to 12 years old, and teaching for those aged 12 - 16
Once a month we have the OK Club (Oasis Kids Club). That's for all kids in the community up to 12 years old. Our Youth group is just about to start the youth Alpha course on a Friday evening at 6: 30pm
Our Children's workers have all had their DBR checks done and are qualified to lead the groups.

... I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life... Ps.27: 4
I love church! I love it when the people of God come together to glorify His name. There is a strengthening, a peace, a joy that fills my whole being when I worship God with other believers.
And I know that God wants that for you as well. Why not come along and join us as we worship the king of kings.
