Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.

Why The Cross?
Why The Cross?

Easter is a wonderful time of year as we prepare to celebrate the crucifixion of Jesus and his resurrection from the dead, it’s a great time to reflect on what Jesus has done for the world

Why go to just one church?
Why go to just one church?

Do we have to be committed to just one church? after all, we all belong to the Universal church, don’t we? And scripture says that there is wisdom in a multitude of counsellors.

How to spot a godly person
How to spot a godly person

How do you know if someone is a godly person? How do you know if you are? Here is a great measuring stick given to us from Psalm 1. how do you measure up?

Thinking about going to church?

Maybe you’re just curious about Christianity, or you’re seeking the Lord for the first time. Perhaps you’re a Christian who has just moved into the area and you’re looking for a local church. Or you’re looking to re-commit yourself to the Lord.

Whatever your reason, going anywhere new for the first time can be a little bit daunting, and we would like to make you feel at home straight away, So we have put together some FAQ’s that you might have to hopefully make it a little bit easier for you – hope it helps!

Where is the church?

Our Address is: Oasis Church, Exchange St. South Elmsall, Pontefract, WF9 2RD

We are next to Home Bargains, on the side road that leads to the Whiterose Surgery and what used to be the council car park.

What time should I arrive?

Our doors open at 9: 45 on Sunday Mornings and we have a 10 Minute prayer time at 10:00 am, So if you want to arrive early and join us in praying for the meeting, anytime before 10.

Our main service starts at 10: 30, so if you want to come for that then any time between 10:15 and 10: 30. Don’t worry if you are late, just join in when you arrive.

Where can I park?

If you drive straight past the church you will find yourself in a large Aldi’s car park.

What can I expect to happen?

We are a very friendly bunch at Oasis, and you can expect a warm welcome to you and your family. You will receive a welcome pack which includes a free bible, and shown to the main hall.

We give the notices at the beginning of the service, to make everyone aware of what’s happening through the week, then we get down to praising the Lord. The bible encourages to sing and to make a joyful noise to God, and we do just that. This prepares us to receive the word of God, and we are strongly grounded in the bible. We are an Evangelical, Spirit-filled church and, while we don’t encourage some of the excesses of some churches, we are very open to the move of the Spirit, so long as it agrees with and conforms to scripture.

We do have communion, but this does not happen every week, so that it does not become a cold tradition just done for the sake of it.

After the service we stay behind for fellowship as long as people want – and drink fresh ground coffee! (Tea and cold drinks are also available).

How long does the service last?

We are led by the Spirit and we can’t put a time limit on Him, but generally speaking between 60 and 90 minutes. But please don’t rush off afterwards, we stay behind for fellowship and have tea or coffee (we have freshly ground coffee by the way) and usually cake and/or biscuits.

What should I wear?

Clothes! Seriously though, come as you are. We have no set requirements, although perhaps best to leave bikinis/speedos for the beach 😉

Can I bring my kids?

Absolutely! we are very family-friendly and welcome children. The kids stay with us for the praise and worship and then go for more age appropriate church.

We have a creche for toddlers up to 5 years old and our version of Sunday school – Camel Club, for children up to 12 years old.

We also have separate, more focused church for 12-16 years old.

One thing have I desired of the Lord…

That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life… Psalm 27: 4

I love church! I love it when believers gather together to glorify His name. There is a strengthening; joy and peace fill my whole being when I worship God with other believers. And I know God wants that for you too.

Why not join with us as we worship the King of kings!
