Making sure we are all on the same page, or a more appropriate metaphor, singing from the same hymn sheet, the Strong Church Foundations study helps us to know what we believe and why we believe it.

Strong Church Foundations

Join us on Thursday evenings as we discuss what it takes to make a healthy Church.

Today, many individuals do not have a full grasp of the Church. Some regard the Church as a club that they can join to fulfil their needs and then leave when it no longer satisfies their desires. Others treat it as a fail-safe position; they go for the baptisms, the weddings, and the funerals, they will go to Christmas and Easter services, and maybe even the harvest festival to try and cover their bases – deceiving themselves into thinking  that is enough to get them into heaven when they die.

But that is NOT Church!

In order for us to be effective as Christians we need to have strong foundations.

Each week we will upload the next study material written by Colin Cooper. Retired pastor of Huddersfield Christian Fellowship, and head of Ministers Fellowship Global.

But to truly grasp what the Church really is, join us on Thursday nights.

Frequently asked questions

It’s always daunting when going somewhere new for the first time. Hopefully these answers will help to settle any nerves you might have about coming to Oasis

We are situated just off the main road through South Elmsall, next to Home Bargains. Our address is:
Oasis Church
10a Exchange Street,
South Elmsall,
Pontefract,

Our doors open at 9: 45 on Sunday Mornings and we have a 10 Minute prayer time at 10:00 am, So if you want to arrive early and join us in praying for the meeting, anytime before 10.
Our main service starts at 10: 30, so if you want to come  for that then any time between 10:15 and 10: 30.
Don’t worry if you are late, there will be someone to greet you and show you to a seat; just join in when you arrive.

If you drive past the church you will enter a large Aldi car park.
Parking is free for the first two hours.

We are a very friendly bunch at Oasis, and you can expect a warm welcome to you and your family. You will receive a welcome pack and shown to the main hall. We give the notices at the beginning of the service, to make everyone aware of what’s happening through the week, then we get down to praising the Lord.
The  bible encourages to sing and to make a joyful noise to God, and we do just that. This prepares us to receive the word of God, and we are strongly grounded in the bible.
We are a nondenominational, Spirit-filled church and, while we don’t encourage some of the excesses of some churches, we are very open to the move of the Spirit, so long as it agrees with and conforms to scripture.
We do have communion, but this does not happen every week, so that it does not become a cold tradition just done for the sake of it. After the service we stay behind for fellowship as long as people want – and drink coffee! (Tea and cold drinks are also available).

We are led by the Spirit and we can’t put a time limit on Him, but generally speaking around 90 minutes. But please don’t rush off afterwards, we stay behind for fellowship and have tea or coffee (we have freshly ground coffee by the way) and usually cake and/or biscuits.

Clothes! Seriously though, come as you are. We have no set requirements, although perhaps best to leave bikinis/speedos for the beach 😉

Absolutely! we are very family-friendly and welcome children. The kids stay with us for the praise and worship and then go for more age appropriate church. We have  our version of Sunday school – Camel Club, for children up to 9 years old. 10 to 15 years old have Curious Kids Church, and over 15 years are expected to stay in the main meeting with the adults.

two of our Children’s leaders are registered nurses, and all have had  their background checks done and are qualified to lead the groups.

Ask them! Send us a message via the contact form, give us a call on 01977 648 394 Or better yet, call in and see us. Palms Coffee Lounge is open Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from 10am till 2:00pm. Pop in for an informal chat and a coffee. (Did I mention the coffee).
