Let your leaves fall!
Autumn is a spectacular season, and October and November can (when it’s not cloudy or raining!) be the best months of the year, with the trees in all their colourful autumnal glory.
There is a tree near to where I live that has shed nearly all of its leaves already, but there are one or two leaves hanging on. It’s as if the tree is refusing to let them go, stubbornly clinging on to the past.
We can be like that with our own pasts, Instead of repenting, forgiving, and letting go, we can hold on to past grievances, grudges, and hurts; refusing to let go of ‘comfortable’ sins.
But if we want to experience the new life, the abundant life; a life of joy and peace, then we have to learn to let our leaves fall.
Learning to let go or put off those things that we have held onto for so long can be difficult, but if we are not careful, they can trip us up and cause us to fall.
Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us…”
We may have to go through a barren season of testing, but spring soon comes around, and before you know it, new life comes.
What ‘leaves’ in your life do you need to let go and let fall?
To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven:
